Back Link Building Strategy: 3 Important Points to Consider Before You Even Start

If you want to promote any webpage you have on the web, you will have to build back links to it. In case you don’t know, back links are links from other websites that points to your webpage/website.

They help to attract traffic to your site and increase your site’s page rank. Search engines love them a lot. Take Google for example. If you look at Google’s history, you’ll recall that they emerged from smart backlink calculation. The two founders were able to discover an algorithm that rank websites base of the number of back links they have. Up to present day it is clear that back links still play an important role in the way websites are ranked.

Before you think of building links to your money site, you must have gotten a niche market and a list of keywords you’ll be targeting. If not you’ll just be going in circles. That said, to improve the effectiveness of your link building campaign, there are 3 factors you should always have in mind and do them right. These factors are discussed below.

1. Back Link Anchor Text: The anchor text of your back links are simply those texts/phrases that people use when they link to your website. They are those texts which you can click on to visit your website. During your link building campaign, always mind the kind of anchor text you use. Make very sure that you use variations of your keywords in the anchor text.

The reason why you should use your keywords in the anchor texts of your links is because they help search engines to understand what your site is all about. By using your keywords in your anchor texts, you’re simply telling Google that your site is relevant to that keyword and because of this, Google will rank you higher whenever someone search for that keyword.

Another thing you should do while building links to your site is to diversify the anchor text of your back links. It is going to look very suspicious to Google (or any other search engine) that all the links pointing to your site or webpage have the same anchor text. This will make Google feel that you’re trying to manipulate her (and Google hate being manipulated) and as a result, she will rank your website low for that keyword. A good practice is to optimize different pages in your site for different keywords and to use few variations/synonyms of your keyword.

2. Page Rank: The page rank of a webpage is one of the means Google use to determine how important a page is. The page rank is just a number that range from 1 to 10. The higher the page rank of a page the higher will be its position in SERP (search engine result page) for the keywords that page is optimized for (Ceteris Paribus). If a page with a high page rank optimizes its content for a particular keyword, it will rank higher than another page with a lower page rank which is also optimized for the same keyword.

For an effective link building campaign, build your links from pages with high page rank rather than from pages with lower page rank. Doing so will give you an edge over the competition. But there is nothing wrong with getting a number of links from low page rank pages. In fact it is good to go for a variety of page ranks.

3. Source of backlinks: Another thing you should have in mind when building links to your site is the source of your back links. Your links should come from a variety of sources. Place them on different sites, including sites with.edu and .gov extension.

Your back links should also come from sites with different IP addresses. By doing these, you are creating diversity in your link building campaign and it will look natural in the eyes of search engines.

These 3 important points will greatly affect your search engine ranking. Doing them the right way will definitely improve your search engine ranking. If you think all these are just theories, read the next paragraph and you’ll see my back link anchor text in action!
